A parent's answer to educational games that kids actually want to play.
As a parent of two young kids in Ontario, I did what most parents do — I tried the popular educational apps. They all looked great on paper. Curriculum-aligned, millions of users, glowing reviews.
But my kids didn't come back for a second try.
The games felt like homework dressed up in bright colours. The questions felt like quizzes, not adventures. My kids weren't learning because they weren't playing — and they weren't playing because nobody built these platforms with kids in the room.
So I started building the platform I wished existed. One where my own kids would actually ask to play.
Where learning feels like a game because it is a game — not a worksheet with a cartoon slapped on top. Where a fire truck rolls in when you help the right community helper, and a crab mascot cheers you on when you get it right.
Every game on Crabcake is tested by the toughest critics I know: my kids. If they don't want to play it again, it doesn't ship.
What makes Crabcake different
Crabcake is built by a parent, for kids. Every game is aligned to the Ontario, Canada Ministry of Education curriculum — covering Mathematics, Language, Science & Technology, and Social Studies from Kindergarten through Grade 4. But curriculum alignment is just the starting point. The real goal is making kids want to learn without being told to.
